Jerry Thomas remembers:
I remember feeling safe as a kid. I use to walk the alleys in my neighborhood and we would walk all over town and up on the campus.
I remember playing ball with neighborhood kids and kick the can.
I remember spending my second grade year at Liberty Memorial High School. Our school, McCalister, was over crowded so they sent my second grade class to the high school. It didn’t take long to see this was a BAD idea.
I remember when I was in third grade ( we either went home or brought a lunch) my teacher, Mrs. Hults, always had a can of soup on the radiator by lunch time her soup would be hot.
I remember Mrs. McGregor took our sixth grade class to her home and we looked at all the trees and bushes in her yard. I still see her once in awhile. She remembers me and we talk about things that happened at New York School.
I remember Blanche Phillips (attendance clerk at LHS) and my mom were friends. I had to tow the line or my mom would have been called.
I remember Duane Rice and I use to "shoot the square" in his Model A
I remember (current event) at one of our meetings for our 50th reunion... we were trying to decide where to have the Saturday night event. Dale Schneider suggested having it at the Lawrence Country Club. He said that is where we had our last dance and the discussion began and everyone (except Bob Duver and myself because we don't remember this event) was telling things that happened that night so it might be interesting to see what others remember of that night.
Jerry Thomas contributes:
It was Mr. Zilliox's Renault. It was put between the chimney and the building at the Junior High School.
Thank God for the Statute of Limitations!
